Family mediation, while gaining increasing importance in resolving domestic disputes out of court, is a process that requires extreme caution due to the emotional sensitivity of the parties and the nature of the disputes. Every assessment made in this process can have not only legal consequences but also psychological, social, and ethical impacts.
With this awareness, the Family Mediation Series IV: Potential Risks in Family Mediation webinar was organized to comprehensively address the risk areas that may be encountered in family mediation practice. The event evaluated legal uncertainties, power imbalances between parties, psychological vulnerabilities, and ethical boundaries that may arise in the family mediation process from a multifaceted perspective.
The webinar was moderated by Dr. Ömer Faruk Kafalı, Assistant Director of the Ibn Haldun University Dispute Resolution Application and Research Center (UÇAM). The speaker at the event was Attorney and Mediator. Nur Özden addressed the risks of family mediation in practice through concrete examples, sharing important findings and recommendations for conducting the mediation process safely and effectively.
The event, which attracted significant interest from participants, once again demonstrated that family mediation is not only a dispute resolution method but also a very sensitive process centered on protecting the parties involved. The webinar created a productive academic and practical discussion platform that contributed to raising awareness in the field and improving the quality of family mediation.
