TÜBİTAK 1001 Project: Developing a Mediation-Based Sustainable Solution Model for University Campuses
This project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 1001 program, aims to analyze the causes, parties, and dynamics of conflicts arising on university campuses using scientific methods. The study seeks to develop a sustainable institutional solution model based on mediation by evaluating the effectiveness of existing conflict management mechanisms on campuses.

Supported under the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Program (2025/1 call), the project entitled “Analysis of Conflict Management in University Campuses and Development of a Mediation-Based Sustainable Institutional Solution Model” adopts a comprehensive approach to examining the nature, causes, and operational dynamics of disputes arising within university campuses. Universities constitute complex social environments in which students, academic staff, and administrative structures interact through multilayered relationships, inevitably giving rise to conflict. This project addresses such conflicts not merely as interpersonal disagreements, but as structural processes that directly influence institutional functioning, academic climate, and campus well-being.

Within this framework, the project systematically analyzes the types of conflicts, their parties, and their underlying dynamics through scientific research methods, while simultaneously assessing the effectiveness of existing conflict resolution mechanisms currently employed within universities. Based on the data obtained, the study aims to develop a mediation-based, participatory, and sustainable institutional solution model. Rather than remaining at a purely theoretical level, the project focuses on designing an implementable model accompanied by concrete institutional roadmaps that can be applied within higher education settings.

The project is carried out under the coordination of the Ibn Haldun University Center for Dispute Resolution Practice and Research (UÇAM), with Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu serving as the principal investigator. Academic consultancy is provided by Prof. Dr. Abbas Türnüklü and Prof. Dr. Ali Yeşilırmak, while the research team includes Assist. Prof. Gülnihal Ahter Yakacak, Assoc. Prof. Sezercan Bektaş, Assist. Prof. Cansu Korkmaz, Assist. Prof. Mehmet Akın Bulut, and Assist. Prof. Ömer Faruk Kafalı. This multidisciplinary academic structure significantly strengthens both the theoretical depth and the practical applicability of the project.

Overall, the project aims to contribute to rethinking conflict management at the institutional level within university campuses by positioning mediation as a sustainable, inclusive, and structurally embedded resolution mechanism. In this respect, the study seeks to establish a scientifically grounded model that promotes dialogue, reconciliation, and a culture of peaceful communication across higher education institutions.
