BAP 2225 We Will Reach an Agreement: A Peer Mediation Project for Young People
"We'll Reach an Agreement: A Peer Mediation Project for Young People" is a practice-oriented training and awareness program aimed at enabling young people to communicate constructively in conflict situations, develop empathy-based solutions, and strengthen a culture of reconciliation among peers.

Implemented within the scope of BAP 2225, the “Aramızda Anlaşırız: Peer Mediation Project for Youth” was designed as a comprehensive social learning model that seeks to enable young people to address everyday conflicts through non-violent, communication-based, and solution-oriented methods. Rather than perceiving conflict solely as a negative phenomenon, the project approaches it as a process that, when managed effectively, can contribute to both individual development and social cohesion. In this context, the project aims to strengthen young people’s abilities to express themselves, understand others, practice active listening, develop empathy, and collaboratively generate solutions.

The training sessions and workshops conducted within the project were structured around a participatory and practice-oriented methodology. By incorporating digital tools and active learning techniques, participants were provided with both theoretical knowledge and experiential learning opportunities regarding the fundamental principles of peer mediation, effective communication, and conflict management. Throughout the workshop process, topics such as communication barriers, emotional awareness, constructive dialogue, and the stages of reaching mutual agreement were addressed through concrete examples and group-based activities.

A key component of the project consisted of peer mediation training programs designed to equip young participants with the skills and responsibilities necessary to support their peers. Within this framework, participants learned how to conduct mediation processes in accordance with the principles of neutrality, voluntariness, confidentiality, and trust. Through the peer mediation approach, young people not only acquired conflict resolution skills but also gained practical experience in contributing to a positive communication climate within school environments.

The educational process was further strengthened through applied training sessions and field activities. During this stage, the project outcomes were transferred directly into practice through awareness-raising trainings delivered at the secondary school level by university students. This peer-to-peer transmission model created a reciprocal learning experience for both those providing and those receiving the training. In this way, the project established a multi-layered learning environment that effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with real-life application.

The “Aramızda Anlaşırız” Project seeks to transform young people’s perspectives on conflict by encouraging them to address disagreements without resorting to violence or avoidance. By the end of the project, it is expected that participants will demonstrate improved communication skills, heightened levels of empathy, and stronger solution-oriented thinking capacities. Accordingly, the project contributes not only to individual development but also to the creation of safer, more inclusive, and more peaceful school environments.

In the long term, the “Aramızda Anlaşırız” Project aims to establish a sustainable and scalable peer mediation model. By prioritizing active youth participation, the project represents a meaningful step toward strengthening dialogue, reconciliation, and a culture of peaceful coexistence within society.
