The Ibn Haldun University Dispute Resolution Application and Research Center (UÇAM) participated as an academic partner in the 1st International Symposium on Maritime Law and Technologies, which was held between 20–22 November 2025 under the hosting of Düzce University and in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye. The symposium served as an international platform where issues such as maritime spatial planning, national and international legal frameworks, the strategic direction of maritime policies, port and technical regulations, as well as the role of international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in the maritime sector were comprehensively examined.
UÇAM undertook the moderation of the third panel of the symposium. The panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu, Director of UÇAM, featured distinguished speakers including Ambassador (Ret.) Suat Hayri Aka, former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications (2016–2018); Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, Member of the Board of DEHUKAM; Dr. Mustafa Başkara, Director of DEHUKAM; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Manav Özdemir, Head of the Department of International Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution at the General Directorate of Law and Legislation of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. Through this panel, a multidimensional academic contribution was made by addressing the ongoing transformations in the maritime sector from legal, policy, economic, and technological perspectives.
With four main panels, fourteen panelists, and eighty academic papers presented, the symposium stands as a significant academic event that strengthened cooperation among academia, public institutions, and the private sector in the field of maritime affairs, and it is included among the symposium activities of our Center.
