As of 2024, theoretical and practical activities focusing on social mediation models—such as peer mediation and campus mediation—have been initiated within the framework of the “Let’s Reach an Agreement: Peer Mediation for Youth” project carried out by our Center. Within the scope of the project, various training programs and awareness-raising activities have been organized to enhance university students’ understanding of peer mediation.
As a significant outcome of these efforts, the “Peer and Family Mediation Practices” Seminar was held on 23 December 2023 through the cooperation of the Ibn Haldun University Dispute Resolution Application and Research Center (UÇAM), the Peer Mediation Association (AKRANDER), and the Family Mediation Association. The seminar brought together academics, legal professionals, social scientists, and practitioners, providing an important academic platform for the comprehensive discussion of the social dimensions of mediation.
The papers presented during the seminar addressed current developments, practical experiences, and theoretical approaches related to both peer and family mediation. In the context of peer mediation, issues such as the peaceful resolution of conflicts among young people, the development of communication skills, and the strengthening of dialogue culture were examined. With regard to family mediation, the legal framework, ethical principles, practical impacts, and international practices were discussed in detail.
This book has been prepared through the compilation of the written versions of the papers presented at the seminar. The publication aims to bring together theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the fields of peer and family mediation, offering a comprehensive perspective on contemporary discussions in mediation. In this respect, the work serves as an important reference source for both academics and professionals working in the field.
As part of the Center’s publications, this volume represents a meaningful contribution to strengthening the social dimension of mediation and promoting a culture of dialogue and reconciliation within society.
