As of 2024, the theoretical and practical activities on peer mediation, campus mediation and other types of social mediation were also started to be carried out within our Centre through the project "Between Us We Agree: Peer Mediation for Young People" project carried out at the Centre as of 2024, theoretical and practical activities on social mediation types such as peer mediation, campus mediation, etc. have started to be carried out. Within the scope of the project, on the one hand, trainings and activities were organised to raise the awareness of university students on peer mediation.
The seminar titled "Peer and Family Mediation Practices" held on 23 December 2023 in cooperation with IHU Dispute Resolution Application and Research Centre (UÇAM), Peer Mediation Association (AKRANDER) and Family Mediation Association was recorded as an important milestone in the field of mediation. This seminar was held with the participation of many academics, lawyers, social scientists and practitioners specialised in both peer and family mediation. The papers presented at the seminar comprehensively addressed current developments, practical examples and theoretical approaches in this field.
This book is the result of the compilation of the papers presented at this valuable seminar. The book contains the most up-to-date information and experiences on mediation practices. This work, which reveals how theoretical knowledge and practical application come together in both peer mediation and family mediation, is a reference source for professionals and academics working in the field.
Peer mediation stands out as a method that is increasingly accepted among young people in the peaceful resolution of conflicts. While this method allows young people to resolve conflicts among themselves through dialogue, it also contributes to the development of empathy, listening and problem-solving skills. The papers in the seminar comprehensively examined the theoretical foundations of peer mediation, the difficulties in its implementation, and examples of its successful application in different educational settings.
Family mediation, on the other hand, is gaining importance as a method for resolving family conflicts, especially in difficult periods such as the divorce process, by being managed by a neutral third party. In this seminar, detailed presentations were made on the legal framework, ethical dimensions and practical implications of family mediation. In addition, the contributions of family mediation to social peace and international practices in this field were also discussed.
This book, compiled from the results of this important seminar held on 23 December 2023, provides a guiding resource for both researchers seeking theoretical knowledge and professionals working in the field of practice. This book, which contains the most up-to-date information and practices in the field of peer and family mediation, aims to open new horizons in the field of mediation. We would like to thank all the participants and associations who have contributed to this valuable contribution and hope that the book will be useful for all stakeholders in the field.
