Our center director Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu took part as a speaker at the event on “Algorithmic Discrimination in Work Life” organized by Özyeğin University. Prof. Dr. Gümrükçüoğlu emphasized the discrimination risk of artificial intelligence and algorithms in business processes and emphasized that these technologies should be carefully examined and controlled by legal regulations.

Our Center Director Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu was a speaker at the event titled “Algorithmic Discrimination in Business Life” organized by Özyeğin University on 25 October 2024. The event focused on the risk of discrimination created by the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence and algorithms in business life, especially in recruitment processes.

Prof. Dr. Gümrükçüoğlu stated that algorithms can disadvantage certain groups due to biases in the data and pointed out that this situation poses serious problems in terms of labor law and human rights. He stated that necessary legal regulations should be made against such discrimination, which may lead to a violation of the principle of equality. In addition, Gümrükçüoğlu reminded that the risks as well as the opportunities that digitalization brings to the business world should not be ignored and emphasized the importance of supervising artificial intelligence systems.

The event was followed with great interest by academic circles and the business world. Moderated by Dr. Elif Altınok Çalışkan from Özyeğin University Faculty of Law, the program drew attention with the important evaluations of our center director on artificial intelligence and labor law. Gümrükçüoğlu's speech offered new perspectives on the use of algorithms in recruitment processes in accordance with the principle of equality.
