The online event titled “Contemporary Issues in International Investment Law,” organized in collaboration with the Ibn Haldun University Dispute Resolution Application and Research Center (UÇAM) and the Turkish Arbitration Academy, will be held on March 18, 2026.
International investment law has become one of the most important legal fields regulating relations between states and foreign investors in today's increasingly complex global economic environment. Issues such as investment protection agreements, investment arbitration, fair and equitable treatment standards, and the regulatory authority of states are intensely debated in international law doctrine and practice. This event will address current issues in international investment law from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
The opening speeches will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu, Vice Rector of Ibn Haldun University and Director of the Dispute Resolution Application and Research Center, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Manav Özdemir, Head of Department at the Presidency's General Directorate of Law and Legislation and Member of the Turkish Arbitration Academy Coordination Board. The program will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Ali Yeşilırmak, a faculty member at Ibn Haldun University Faculty of Law and a member of the Turkish Arbitration Academy Coordination Board.
In the panel session, Csaba M. Rusznak, managing partner of Sovereign Arbitration Advisors (Washington, DC), will evaluate the current state of investment law and future opportunities with her presentation titled “Investment: Current Understanding and Future Opportunities.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yulia Levashova, faculty member at Nyenrode Business University, will address the standard of fair and equitable treatment in investment law in her presentation titled “Investment Law Standards: Fair and Equitable Treatment.” Hasan Aslan Akpınar, Head of International Relations Department at the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, will share Turkey’s experiences and future implications regarding its international investment agreements program with his presentation titled “Turkey’s International Investment Agreements Program: Lessons Learned for the Future.”
